World Pilot Day is celebrated every year all over the world to give honor to the pilots who are serving millions of passengers. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) celebrates this special day to create awareness of the crucial responsibilities of pilots. This day was first introduced by the International Federation of Air Line Pilots’ Associations (IFALPA) to remind everyone of the sustainable practice in aviation.

World Pilot’s Day is celebrated on the 26th of April every year to recognize the massive contribution of air pilots in various sectors, whether it is for commercial passenger, cargo, defense, or private aircraft and helicopters. 

History

On this special occasion of Pilot Day, a Turkish pilot, Fesa Evrensev, flew his first flight in the year 1912. According to ICAO, he was the first Turkish pilot who took part in several military missions in later days. Fesa Evrensev took charge as the president of Turkish Airlines and has a long-standing relationship with IFALPA. The Turkish Airline Pilot’s Association started celebrating Pilots Day in Turkey in honor of Fesa Evrensev. Soon after, in the year 2013, IFALPA realized its significance and declared 26th April as Pilot Day.

Celebration in India 

The Aviation Minister of India, commemorating World Pilot Day, shared the latest statistics that revealed that 15% of pilots in India are women, which is above the global average of 5%. The mission is to recruit more pilots to cater to the high rising demand of pilots. 

Indigo airline has taken a unique initiative to celebrate this day by organizing nationwide blood donation camp. It offered free health check-ups across 50 cities of India. According to Indigo, more than 1000 personnel donated blood on this occasion.
